There's no layer of extra meaning in there, and no further insight into any characters than we'd gain from if they weren't dreaming about something and were "really" responding to things the way they did in their so-called dream. The problem is the "it's imaginary, within this fiction" line is that as a reading it very rarely has anything to say. If you go and and take the most basic and fundamental tropes of a personal journey and say "oh, it's what his brain wants so its creating them" then you're not taking what the artist is giving you anymore, you're completely transposing an entire narrative framework and pretending it's insightful. I think if I met him I'd like him as a person but I've not seen a lot of his work. I like Chan or rather the work I've seen him in. Me and my old man were a fan of Laurel and Hardy though. There is a video of him floating about on the reddit frontpage.

His antics with a real steam train in The General remain unsurpassed.Īnd his short film Sherlock Jr. Don't read the book though, it's very slow.īuster Keaton.
KUNG FU HUSTL MOVIE MOVIE
I saw it a couple of years ago but it's been a long time since a movie swept me off my feet. The best movie I've seen for a long time is The Road. Not a great movie (because if it was I'd remember it with greater clarity) but a very good one and, as you say, any movie which keeps you guessing is a good thing. I'll keep them in mind though, certainly. Hmm, a critic I like (Mark Kermode, check out his stuff) seems to like these movies but I've not felt compelled to watch them yet. Happy viewings! Hope you find someting good! Reviled at the time, it is probably his best talkie and I highly recommend it.

But after WW2, he played a serial killer in Monsier Verdoux. I would say Mon Oncle is his funniest.Īnd I'll end by mentioning a fairly not well known film. In between these two, not action packed but brilliantly funny, are some of Jaques Tati's films.

Perhaps not a witty film, but the astonishing stunts should leave you entertained. From my understandig, the original Chinese version of Police Story (1985) is his best work. Then you have to jump ahead decades to Jackie Chan. His antics with a real steam train in The General remain unsurpassed. But any movie where the surprise ending is really a surprise beginning is going to be high on my list as regards inherent wit.īut as I think about witty action specifically, then there are really two names that come to mind before all.īuster Keaton. I'm sure you've seen Memento, which is simply brilliant, though not funny nor rollicking. (And as a toy collector, I've made a display of all the Lego toys related to the film.) The film is witty as Hell and and very fast paced. I've watched it many times and each frame is too jam packed to catch the film in one viewing. The best witty and action packed movie I've recently seen was The Lego Movie, which was, as you probably know, snubbed by the Oscars but won best Animated Film at your end. Witty action pics are not easy to think of. Latest Discussions The Super Mario Bros Movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves John Wick: Chapter 4 Renfield Keanu Reeves Tobey Maguire
